If you own a Mercedes-Benz, you have probably seen the “Service A” or “Service B” notification on your dashboard. Mercedes-Benz’s Flexible Service System uses these intervals to keep your vehicle in peak condition. But what exactly does each service include, and how do they differ? At Autobahn Service of San Jose, we perform both A and B services at a fraction of the dealership cost while using the same OEM parts and procedures.
What Is Mercedes A Service?
Mercedes A Service covers the more basic of the two scheduled maintenance intervals. Your Mercedes typically needs this service every 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. Think of it as your essential maintenance checkup. A Service includes a synthetic motor oil replacement using Mercedes-Benz approved oil, an oil filter replacement, a check of all fluid levels, a tire inflation check, a brake component inspection, and a maintenance counter reset.
At Autobahn Service of San Jose, we price our Mercedes A Service at $200. Dealerships in the San Jose area typically charge $350 to $500 for the same service.
What Is Mercedes B Service?
Mercedes B Service provides a more comprehensive maintenance visit. Your Mercedes typically needs this service every 20,000 miles or 2 years. It includes everything in the A Service plus additional inspections and replacements. B Service covers everything in A Service along with a cabin dust and combination filter replacement, brake fluid exchange, a detailed brake system inspection, an engine inspection, and checks of all belts, hoses, and suspension components.
We price our Mercedes B Service at Autobahn Service at $499. Most San Jose dealerships charge $600 to $900 for the same work. You get the same thorough service with genuine OEM parts and factory-trained procedures.
A Service vs B Service: How the Schedule Works
Mercedes-Benz uses an alternating service schedule. Your first service will be an A Service at around 10,000 miles. At 20,000 miles, you will receive a B Service. Then at 30,000 miles comes another A Service, followed by a B Service at 40,000 miles. Your vehicle’s onboard computer tracks driving conditions and notifies you when each service falls due. In San Jose’s varied driving conditions, including highway commuting on 101 and 280, your service intervals may come sooner than the standard schedule.
Why Skip the Dealership for Mercedes Service?
Many Mercedes owners in San Jose assume they need to visit the dealership for scheduled maintenance to preserve their warranty. The truth is that under federal law, any qualified independent shop can service your Mercedes without voiding your warranty. The shop simply needs to use the correct parts and procedures. At Autobahn Service, our ASE-certified technicians use only Mercedes-Benz approved parts and fluids. We follow all manufacturer-specified procedures and back every service with our 2-year / 24,000-mile warranty on parts and labor.
